Welcome to my website. My name is THAVES. I am a full time tutor who has been coaching many Form 4 and Form 5 students in SUBANG JAYA, by providing an opportunity for them to fully understand Additional Mathematics.

When asked, most students complain that Additional Mathematics is their most feared subject, besides Biology. Not surprisingly, Add Maths has one of the highest failing rates in SPM. However, there are exceptional students who never fail to score big in Add Maths as well. What can we conclude ? Is Add Maths a subject that is impossible to score in ? Or is it one that is easy to score in ? The answer is both of the above. Add Maths is not hard really, it is merely pure Mathematics that has been suited to the Malaysian education system. For capable students, Additional Mathematics is a must as it is the basics of many career options, such as in Engineering and IT.

So now we come to the most asked question. What is the secret to score in Additional Mathematics ? Is it practice ? Is it good coaching ? As you would have guessed, it is again both. First thing first, proper understanding of the subject matter. Add Maths is about understanding important aspects of pure Mathematics such as Calculus, Algebra and Statistics. These new worlds are opened up to students as they progress through the syllabus. Future Engineers learn the importance of Calculus in Chapters 9 and 14 of the SPM syllabus, Differentiation and Integration. Future Actuaries tend to excel in chapters related to Statistics such as Probability and Probability Distribution. Some students even choose career paths after finding interests in different parts of Add Maths.

Nowadays, students find it difficult to understand subjects in school.

There are a few reasons for this, among others ;

• Big classes.
• Accelerated teaching.
• Lack of attention.
• Focus in different areas of  School Activities.

In a big class, students do not get enough attention from teachers. This is not the fault of either party.

Sometimes teachers who are relatively busy have to teach and complete the syllabus quickly, to prepare students in time for the examinations. Furthermore, many students end up skipping classes because of other events such as Sports Day, Family Day and other co-curricular activities. Missing even one period of Add Maths can be disastrous to the understanding of the subject for the students. And now when they are so busy, it is more than likely for things like this to happen.

There is no doubt that Additional Mathematics is a very important subject mainly because it will educate students on the basics of advanced mathematics. This knowledge will become invaluable for students at higher education levels.

About me :-

My full name  is Thavesvaran and I am a qualified Mathematics tutor. I graduated from University Malaya in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (Hons), which is a single major degree. Having initially started my career as a banker, I finally decided to start tuition in Mathematics for secondary school students. Over the course of  my career, I have managed to deliver a proper understanding of Mathematics to many students who have scored exceptional results in their SPM examinations.

About the Class :-

Having provided tuition for PMR and SPM students for many years at Tuition Centres and at students’ residents, I began my own group sessions for SPM students. Therefore, the recruits for the year 2012 will be for group tuition and 1- to- 1 sessions. The group classes commence at the specified times at my personal residence in USJ14  at Goodyear Court 10.

The schedule for group classes for the year of 2012 are as follows ;

• Monday night- Add Maths (Form 5)
• Wednesday night – Modern Maths (Form 5)
• Thursday night – Add Maths (Form 4)
• Saturday afternoon- Modern Maths (Form 4)

This schedule is custom tuned to increase convenience for my students. This means that Form 4 students will be having classes on the same day of the week until they finish Form 5 classes. This will enable students to maintain a simple timetable as their classes commence on the same day of the week for the full 2 years of duration of their respective classes. For example, a student who enrolled in 2011 as a Form 4 student, will have classes until the end of 2012 on Monday nights.

I also accept 1- to- 1 sessions with students.

My style of coaching is very well received by almost all of my students, and I’m very pleased for that.

Having good experience in this field, I have analysed and concluded a very efficient way to deliver the subject of Additional Mathematics to my students. I firstly run through the whole syllabus for students in their respective Forms. I will stress importance to crucial chapters that regularly appear in the SPM examination. As it is hard to predict which questions will come out, I focus on a large scope. I give proper importance to topics that will be used widely in higher education. Therefore, my students often excel in both SPM and higher education.
